Distinctive Unit Insignia

Description
A gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height consisting of a gold stirrup in perspective.  Originating within the stirrup and encircling its base forming a scroll, a black belt showing a green reverse with a gold buckle and inscribed DECISION WITH MIGHT in gold letters.

Symbolism
The device is symbolic of the traditional background of the Cavalry.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 6 October 1965.

Shield

Per chevron Sable and Or, in chief two stirrups leathered of the last, in base an annulet Azure (Celestial).

Crest

That for the regiments and separate battalions of the Ohio Army National Guard:  On a wreath of the colors Or and Sable, a sheaf of seventeen arrows Argent bound by a sprig of buckeye (Aesculus glabra) fructed Proper (two leaves with bursting burr).

Symbolism

Shield

The stirrups signify the historical background of the Cavalry.  The chevron shape represents forward motion of a Cavalry unit making contract and penetrating enemy defenses.  The annulet alludes to the lens of a telescope and is symbolic of reconnaissance.  The center of the annulet, the eye, represents Ohio, the Buckeye State.

Crest

The crest is that of the Ohio Army National Guard.

Background
The coat of arms was approved on 26 February 1965.
